TSAA-SF Annual Conference 2023 - Speaker Biographies Brett Villaume, CMT, CAIA TOPIC: Understanding Relative Strength DESCRIPTION: Among the various tools of Technical Analysis, the concept of relative strength is easy to understand, and calculating a security’s relative performance versus a benchmark is elementary compared to the formulas of many momentum indicators. Linda Raschke TOPIC: Auction Theory versus the Theory of Reflexivity: How do we use these in our decision making processes? DESCRIPTION: Linda will start off by comparing two conceptual models that can be used to add context to the way we describe price behavior when there is incomplete information. Concepts such as self reinforcing positive feedback loops, equilibrium points, asymmetrics, noise, and the process of building value are contemporary theories as opposed to the traditional technical approach to studying the markets written over 100 years ago. These models can be used to further understand the type of strategies demanded for specific environments - opportunities and risk as defined well beyond traditional support and resistance. How can be build linear systems to capitalize on a market environment based on incomplete information? How can we monitor for when chaotic systems start to wreak havoc with our models? Game theory also provides useful tools no matter what regime is dominant. At the end, we will use tools based off market structure and auction theory to look at several markets on an intermediate time frame to asses where asymmetries are offering unusual information. The presentation will be a whole lot more fun than this dry and academic title suggests! BIO: Linda began her professional trading career in 1981 making markets in options as a member of two exchanges. She became a registered CTA in 1992, forming LBRGroup, Inc.
